THE HARRIS AGENCY TO PROVIDE GRANT WRITING TO NONPROFITS AND BUSINESSES
The Harris Agency has opened its doors to provide grant writing, strategic planning, and consulting services to nonprofits and businesses throughout West Tennessee and elsewhere in the Southeast. A new business and one of the newest members of the Jackson Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce, The Harris Agency, LLC is the brainchild of Shemika M. Harris, Ed.D, company president. Her office is located at the Neely House, 575 South Royal, Suite 22.
“Hard work, strategic planning, and teamwork are what make dreams come true,” said Dr. Harris, who has operated freelance since 2013. “These values have aided The Harris Agency, LLC in successfully procuring federal and private grant funding, leading successful organizations and building relationships with community stakeholders that encourage growth and success. It is our privilege to work closely with organizations to make a difference in funding as well as their overall impact and success in the community.”
Dr. Harris is an experienced grant writer, program director, and educator. She holds her undergraduate degree in Business Education and masters in Administration and Supervision from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and her doctorate in Counseling from the University of Memphis. During her professional career, she has worked in Jackson, Memphis, and Murfreesboro as well as Georgia and North Carolina. Her career in education includes teaching, counseling, and administrative positions at Southwest Tennessee Community College (STCC), Rhodes College, Lane College, and the University of West Georgia.
As a grant writer at Southwest and as an independent contractor, Dr. Harris has served as the lead writer for grant proposal totaling over six million in grant awards. She also has more than 10 years experience managing budgets and contracts as well as supervising employees and volunteers. Her other past positions have included Enrollment Services Assistant at STCC, Assistant Director of Residence Life at Rhodes, Director of Student Support Services at Lane, General Manager and Property Manager for student housing property at the University of Alabama, Assistant Director of Student Activities at the University of West Georgia and Program Coordinator at MTSU. She is a native of Bolivar, Tennessee.
